I just got back from my first bike ride near Stanford, and I can conclude two things:

  1. I’m really out of shape.
  2. It’s beautiful here!

My route was fairly short and relatively flat, but it did have a few fun parts. I was feeling pretty low after the main climb, but a multi-mile descent at speed put a smile back on my face. The weather was clear, so the views were nice, and the route had light traffic and few traffic-control devices.

The challenge now is to make myself hit the road more often.

That’s a good loop! I wish I’d done it more before I left.

17 miles my standard bike-ride distance right now (albeit on a mountain bike)…i usually feel pretty crippled afterwards – especially since i’m not used to having any sort of hills in my routine. sometimes i miss indiana. other times….well, yeah.

When I was training in Cali for my tri, the team took us on a ride for hill repeats. Breathtaking. This is the route we used. Coming from Stanford would definitely add some distance.

Two pictures of this route can be found here.

Back to school?? Some of us never leave. I just started grad work at OSU. My thoughts randomly turned to you today, so I thought I would check out your old website. Hope things are well after the car thing. Are you doing HC at Rose?
