When is it right to favor quantity over quality? Today, I chose the latter.
Rather than let it sink to the irrecoverable depths of mediocrity, I am giving Zoitz a rest. It’s been a fun couple of months, and it even had a handful of regular readers with whom I’m not acquainted, but the whole thing was causing me too much stress. I have a new respect for those artists who pump out a fresh, funny strip every single day.
Maybe it will return on a regular basis, maybe it will publish only occasionally, and maybe it is dead for all time. We’ll see.
Thanks to everybody who indulged in my experiment!

Back in high school, a pair of Jehovah’s Witnesses woke me one Saturday morning, just as they had done on countless other weekends. I was tired of having my slumber interrupted, so I told them that I would call the police if they ever returned. Problem solved.
Fast forward to today. At my mom’s place of employment, a customer stopped by. My mom, gregarious as she is, struck up a conversation with the woman. After a while, my mom commented that the lady seemed familiar, to which the lady responded, “Yes, we used to come to your house quite regularly until your son told us off.”
Oops.
For the record, my mom didn’t like the early-morning visits either, but she could never bring herself to be as blunt as I was.

A while back, the Myth Busters busted a myth about people getting stuck on airplane toilets. I don’t think I was ever afraid of those, but I remember being wary of swimming pool drains as a child. The fear always seemed unfounded, but I read an article today that proved otherwise: a 6-year old was eviscerated by a pool drain when she sat on it. Ow… It hurts even to think about that. The good news is that she managed to free herself and lived.
Warning, the story is not for the squeamish.

Weeks with holidays in their middles are always unproductive. Why don’t companies just shut down for the entire week?

It’s been nearly three months since my last haircut, and I think it’s time to do something about it. The problem now is deciding on a cut.
I’ve had the same hair style for the last five years, so I’m tempted to try something different. But what? One last foray into long styles before my slowly thinning locks force me to accept the realities of aging? A short summer buzz? Something trendy? Something timeless?
I haven’t a clue.
