Today, I met the founder and the CEO of the company that I work for. The 55-year-old Fortune 500 company. Of course, when I say “met,” I really mean “shook the hands of,” but it was still a neat experience. It’s not often that lowly engineers get to meet either of those people in a corporation with a $66 billion market cap.

Tomorrow, I have seven straight hours of meetings, including a lunch meeting. Wow.

Last week, I found out that one of my family’s dogs has diabetes mellitus. Unfortunately, this news came on the heels of my agreement to watch the dogs while my mom and sister were out of town. The upshot is that I learned how to give my dog insulin injections this past weekend.

Prior to Saturday, I had never given anybody – myself included – an injection of any kind, let alone a dog. I’ll spare you the boring details; suffice it to say, it was surprisingly easy.

The insulin used for dogs is the same as that used for humans. Therefore, the place of procurement is the same: a pharmacy. Despite this, I was a bit surprised to see a sticker stuck to the bottle of insulin: “Do not consume alcohol while using this medication.” It’s a good thing that warning was there; I can’t count the number of times that I’ve had to pull my dog away from my b o o z e. Maybe “infinity?” No; “infinity plus one.” D’oh!

One year ago today, I began full-time employment. Hard to believe.

Back when I started my current job, I mentioned that it would be nice to have a recliner in my cube.

Well… I now have the coolest guest chair ever! It’s a leather armchair/recliner!
